Employers and unions must address systemic racism<\/h1>\r\n\r\n

This week, a PSAC member was terminated after sharing a racist video that mocked the murder of George Floyd.\u202f <\/p>\r\n

We were appalled at the creation and distribution of such disturbing and offensive content. It is particularly troubling when we consider that one of the people involved, worked for a major federal institution. <\/p>\r\n

It demonstrates just how pervasive and systemic the problem of racism is.\u202f No institution is immune. Unions, small business, large companies, public employers \u2013 we all have a great deal of work to do in order to eradicate racism.\u202f <\/p>\r\n

At this critical moment, we call on all PSAC employers to work with us to create the genuine change that can address systemic racism. We have a diverse membership across the country, and they all deserve to be part of a union and workplace that not only rejects racism, but actively works to dismantle the structures and behaviour that sustain it.<\/p>\r\n

Individuals must always be held accountable for their actions; however this is not a problem to be pinned on a single person or a few \u201cbad apples\u201d. We are long past the point of thinking we can make things better by simply reacting to individual acts.<\/p>\r\n

Unions and employers have the ability to address systemic racism together, and PSAC is committed to being an active partner in this important work.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n \r\n \r\n<\/article>\r\n\r\nsource<\/a>\r\n

Cette semaine, un membre de l\u2019AFPC a \u00e9t\u00e9 licenci\u00e9 apr\u00e8s avoir partag\u00e9 une vid\u00e9o raciste moquant le meurtre de George Floyd.<\/p>\r\n

Nous avons \u00e9t\u00e9 constern\u00e9s par la cr\u00e9ation et la diffusion de mat\u00e9riel aussi d\u00e9rangeant et offensant. C\u2019est particuli\u00e8rement troublant quand on sait que l\u2019une des personnes impliqu\u00e9es travaillait pour une grande agence f\u00e9d\u00e9rale.<\/p>\r\n

Voil\u00e0 qui montre \u00e0 quel point le racisme est un probl\u00e8me omnipr\u00e9sent et syst\u00e9mique. Aucune organisation n\u2019est \u00e0 l\u2019abri. Syndicats, petites entreprises, grandes soci\u00e9t\u00e9s, administrations publiques\u2026 nous avons tous beaucoup \u00e0 faire pour \u00e9radiquer le racisme.<\/p>\r\n

En ce moment critique, nous demandons \u00e0 tous les employeurs des membres de l\u2019AFPC de travailler avec nous pour op\u00e9rer le v\u00e9ritable changement qui permettra de combattre le racisme syst\u00e9mique. Nos membres d\u2019un bout \u00e0 l\u2019autre du pays, d\u2019origines diverses, m\u00e9ritent tous un syndicat et un milieu de travail qui non seulement rejettent le racisme, mais travaillent activement \u00e0 d\u00e9manteler les structures et les comportements qui le perp\u00e9tuent.<\/p>\r\n

\u00c9videmment, chaque individu doit \u00eatre tenu responsable de ses actes, mais le racisme n\u2019est pas le probl\u00e8me d\u2019une seule personne ou de quelques \u00ab\u2009pommes pourries\u2009\u00bb. L\u2019\u00e9poque o\u00f9 nous pensions am\u00e9liorer les choses en r\u00e9agissant \u00e0 des actes isol\u00e9s est r\u00e9volue.<\/p>\r\n

Les syndicats et les employeurs ont les moyens de s\u2019attaquer ensemble au racisme syst\u00e9mique, et l\u2019AFPC s\u2019engage \u00e0 y travailler activement.<\/p>\r\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n \r\n \r\n<\/article>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
